Meet our Teachers
Andrea Baird
I am the owner of Painted Bloom Farm and Nature School and am passionate about the opportunities we provide for children here at our farm. I am the mother of seven wonderful children and six darling grandchildren who are the joy of my life. Besides being a nature school teacher, I am a lover of the natural world, an artist and a cut flower farmer. I have always had the desire to make a difference in the world. Especially in the lives of children. My life took a major turn when I became a widow in 2018. Since my husbands passing I have found a deep sense of purpose in the creation of Painted Bloom Farm Nature School. As a child I spent hours roaming the woods, climbing trees and exploring the creek beds near our home. I became deeply connected to nature and felt a tangible sense of peace and joy that sustained me throughout my childhood. I believe that time in nature is essential for all of us, especially in this fast paced world that we live in. I attended two years of college as an art major before starting my family and have always had the desire to provide creative experiences for children. In 2019 I began teaching art classes and growing cut flowers to sell to the local florists, and then in 2022 made the exciting decision to expand to a nature school. Combining my love for children, nature and art has made my life more joyful than I could have ever imagined. I have learned many times over that every difficulty life brings can be turned into a gift and an opportunity over time. Being outdoors with our students through sun, snow, hail and wind, watching each child develop in such incredible ways, listening to their laughter and their imaginative play, watching conflicts resolve and friendships grow, muscles strengthen and confidence increase, and witnessing the awakened awareness of all that’s around them is PURE JOY! I wholeheartedly believe in what we provide for our students here at Painted Bloom Farm and look forward to every beautiful day!

Although my bachelor’s degree is in International Studies, I’ve spent the majority of my adult life working with children and have always sought out work that feels meaningful. I’ve been a caretaker at a group home for displaced youth, have taught and tutored English as a second language to school children in Taiwan and China, and spent almost five years as a behavioral specialist working with emotionally distressed children in a school setting.
I love the outdoors and spend as much of my summers as I can out camping and hiking with my dogs. I have a deep love and appreciation for the natural world and all it has to teach us. Foraging for edible plants and using natural plant dyes to upcycle secondhand clothing are two of my favorite hobbies.
When my mom decided to open a Nature School, it seemed like a natural fit for me to join her as a teacher. My work in behavioral health was emotionally demanding and at times felt like a band-aid solution. I often left feeling defeated by systems, environments, and technologies outside of my control. The ideas behind nature-immersion get to the root of what children need to thrive and build resilience. Freedom, connection to the world around them, a deep sense of friendship and community, playfulness, curiosity, and creativity.
